Mud Derailing Your Ride? Give Sprockets The Gas

Somerville, NJ (February 2002) - When John W. Young, an avid mountain biker, hits the trails, he often finds himself hauling along mucky globs of mire. His solution is inventive enough to win him an audio accessory: a portable CD player.

The Marmora, N.J., resident carries along a compressed-gas duster most often used to clean home computers. "It works great," he says. "I've used Dust-Off® to clean mud and dirt out of the sprickets, derailers and shifters."

Most often found in office-supply stores, Dust-Off was invented in the 1970s so news photographers could safely clean negatives and camera equipment. The Grand-Prize winner, announced last month, won a home electronics package worth $3,000 for his suggested use: cleaning automobile air vents.
