Secret Is Out In Anchorage, Cleaner Clippers May Move Southward

Somerville, NJ (February 2002) - When hair stylist Victor Izzo of Anchorage, Alaska, found that using a compressed-air duster saved time and money in equipment cleanup, he never counted on the watchful competition.

"Before we were having to take apart barber clippers to clean the hair out. Now we get back to work with a minimal amount of lost time," he says. "But after seeing us, several other shops in town are also using Dust-Off®."

Even if Izzo has lost his competitive advantage here, at least he qualified for a portable CD player in a new-uses contest sponsored by the manufacturers of Dust-Off compressed-gas dusters that ended last month. (Elizabeth Gdowski of Rockford, Ill., also won a CD player for her duster use: quick drying finger nail polish.)

A compressed-gas duster, Dust-Off was invented in the 1970s so news photographers could safely clean negatives and camera equipment. The product now is mostly found in office-supply outlets, for use in cleaning computer equipment.

The Grand Prize winner, announced last month, won a home electronics package worth $3,000 for his suggested use: cleaning automobile air vents.
