Blast Of Dust-Off™ Best Way To Dust Gold Dust, Clean Watches

Somerville, NJ (October 25, 2001) – Most folks want to blow away dust. Not jewelry maker Ron Decker of Parker, Colorado.

For Decker, workplace dust is as good as gold – once the jeweler reprocesses the precious residue that remains after he files settings for semiprecious gemstones. To collect gold, silver and other precious metals in small bags, Decker uses Dust-Off® a compressed-gas duster invented in 1970s so news photographers could safely clean negatives and various types of camera equipment.

Decker’s dusting advice, and that from several watch repairmen, have proven valuable, netting each a portable CD player from a new-uses contest sponsored by the manufacturers of Dust-Off compressed-gas dusters.

Pat Ciccarello of Jacksonville, Fla., uses the duster to swiftly remove debris when installing new watch batteries. Otis Whitaker, of Mohave Valley, Arizona, finds the duster particularly useful clearing dust clot from antique clock movements. He explains, “It’s particularly handy when you don’t want to take them apart.”

Dust-Off now is mostly found in office-supply outlets, for use in cleaning computer equipment.

The Grand Prize winner, announced last month, won a home electronics package worth $3,000 for his suggested use: cleaning automobile air vents.
