Somerville, NJ (February 2002) – When his return from the taxidermist, Linda Purvis’s husband’s work is almost finished – except, perhaps, for mounting the trophies and retelling tales of the hunt.
For the Metamora, Mich., housekeeper, though, the adventure continues. Her clean-up tip, though, was judged so useful that she bagged her own trophy: a portable CD player from the manufacturers of a compressed-gas product, Dust-Off®.
“The mounted animal heads (deer, antelope, etc.) get so dusty, and are very hard to keep clean.” she explains. “I use Dust-Off to keep them looking like they did when they were first mounted.”
Dust-Off® was invented in the 1970s so news photographers could safely clean negatives and camera equipment. The product now is mostly found in office-supply outlets, for use in cleaning computer equipment.
To collect additional applications for its Dust-Off product, manufacturer Falcon Safety Products of Somerville, NJ, awarded 101 portable CD players for creative ideas sent to its Website, www.dust-off.com. A Grand Prize winner, announced last month, won a home electronics package worth $3,000 for his suggested use: cleaning automobile air vents.
